How To Organize A Food Stockroom
Many people ask me "where do I keep it all?"
Do I have a Stockroom?
How do I Organize MY Stockroom?
I have organized my basement into a few stockroom areas.
I have one stockroom for all my FOOD and HOLIDAY Decorations.
I have one stockroom for all my NON-FOOD.
And I have an area with shelving near my washer & dryer for my LAUNDRY Stockpile.
Today my oldest daughter and I re-organized our FOOD STOCKROOM
so we could get a load of donations out for the Vets at an American Legion.
We mostly donate to our local food cupboard where my daughter volunteers.
Anything that I can get FREE with coupons or that is a MONEYMAKER... WE GET!!!
IF we don't use that item it goes straight to donation.
IF we do eat/use the items, then they go into our stockrooms.
When I purchase items that are perishable,
I am careful to look for items that expire the farthest date out.
When items that we do eat/use get close to expiration date in our stockroom,
if we haven't used them all up yet, then we donate them.
Nothing goes to waste!
What is the Least Expensive Way to Get Shelving For Your Stockroom?
Keep your eyes open at estate sales and garage sales for cheap shelving.
Sometimes I've even gotten lucky and people put bookshelves to the curb
so we stop and grab those LOL!
Old changing tables can work too, get creative!

I got lucky earlier this year and found shelving on CLEARANCE at Target too!
Black Friday is the best time to Purchase shelving brand new.
You can usually score some for around $45.00 at Lowes & Home Depot Black Friday.
How Do I Organize My Shelves In My FOOD Stockroom?
Items that I don't want my little monkeys to grab I put up high, like the munchies LOL
Coffee is also lightweight & I'm the only one in the house that drinks coffee,
so that goes on a top shelf too.
Items that are heavier or that I send my youngest ones down to the basement to grab for me,
like the Capri Suns for their school lunches, I put on the bottom shelves.
I try to keep soups together, sauce & pasta on a shelf together,
a shelf for condiments and dressings and BBQ Sauce etc on a shelf together etc.
We use a Black Sharpie Marker and date the packages.
My oldest daughter does this for me as her eyes are MUCH better than mine for reading the expiration dates,
then we organize them by expiration date left to right, front to back, so we can pull things in order.
Date label them on whatever side will be facing out, or on top if easily viewable.
Aaaaand if you're worried about younger kids getting in when you don't want them to,
lock the room up!
We use a combination lock set up high on the door frame. Older people in our house can unlock it whenever we want to, and we don't have to worry about losing a key.
The purple one I have was the cheapest one I found at Target.
There is no wrong way to organize your stockpile,
whatever is most convenient for you.
Have fun! Hope some of my ideas helped you!
